Pontiac 6000 Losses Power And Bucks
Q. Hi! Been having problems with my 1988 Pontiac 6000 SE 2.8 litre V-6 for quite some time, maybe six months. In the winter had some stalling problems, and one day it died and wouldn't restart. Had some repairs done and it ran quite good for a few months and then started having problems again. The problem is that when driving it will suddenly respond to accelerating by acting as if it's not getting gas.
That's sort of how it feels through my foot so I have to accelerate more to keep it going and the car lurches forward physically, a jerking motion. Sort of like, getting gas, not getting gas, getting gas, not getting gas, getting gas etc. It may do this every day or just part of a day or not at all for a day or two.
Accelerating to higher speeds often improves it some but it doesn't always disappear completely. Had it looked at by some mechanics. One said maybe engine bearing problems, and the second had no idea and the third said I needed a new engine. I'm not to confident about what they said and a new engine is pretty expensive. Can you help?
Someone said maybe I should change my PVC Valve and Air Breather? Thought about it but don't know where they're located.

A. Sounds like you need to see a different tech altogether! Too many opinions here. Have it scanned while the problem is there to see if someone can pick out the problem. Sounds like loss of fuel pressure. Possibly a bad pump or clogged fuel filter. Don't know if I'd spend a whole lot of money or time in this year and engine combination unless it's a really clean car.
