GMC Yukon Loose Steering
Q. I have a 1999 GMC Yukon 2-WD 4-door with 55,000 mi. The steering feels very "loose" and it tends to "walk" all over the road. I found a worn connection at the Pitman arm. I've had the Pitman arm and Idler arm replaced, installed new (stock) tires, had the wheel bearings packed, and had the front end aligned and double checked TWICE by two very good garages.
The steering still has a "loose" feel. It has lost the "tight" feel it had when it was newer. What else can be causing this problem? Could there be a problem in the steering gear box, hydraulics, or sensor? I don't know what to look for.
Thanks for your help,
JCA. If it hasn't had a new EVO sensor installed, I would start there first. This is on the bottom of steering column and senses the speed of turning of wheel. When it's bad, it will give you a "loose" feeling.
