Jeep Crank Sensor

Q. Dear Vincent, I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee 4WD Auto, inline 6 (4.0) with 203,000 miles. The Jeep runs great. About 5 years ago and within the last month I have had intermittent starting problems.

Both times after much searching and experimenting I finally gave up and went into the shop for repairs. Both times the mechanics replaced the "Cranking Sensor" and the problems were cured.

My question is "where is the cranking sensor located?" so I can save the time and labor next time.

Thanks for the help. You have a great column!

A. I'm assuming you mean the crank signal. That is part of the starter relay located on the right fender, towards the firewall and under the A/C lines.
