Cadillac Turn Signals

Q. I drive a 1983 Cadillac Eldorado, engine is 4.1 liter, automatic transmission, mileage about 91,000.

My question is this: recently, the right turn signal stopped working. When I turn on the signal, the light comes on as it should, but it is sustained, rather than blinking. This applies to both the dashboard triangle and the bumper light bulbs. The left turn signal operates normally. When I turn on the hazards lights, both signals blink properly.

Is this something I could fix myself, such as a fuse? Or am I headed for the dealership?

Many thanks,
Steve

A. I think this is something you can handle. There's two major reasons why the signals stay on steady like that. You either have a burned out turn signal bulb, or a bad flasher unit.

Make sure all the turn signal bulbs are working and are the correct type. If they are then take off the drivers side lower instrument cover and turn the left signal on. If it is not in the fuse box, follow the clicking sound to the flasher unit. GM has a way of tucking them up inside the panel so following the sound is the best way to find it. It's a standard turn signal unit but I would pull it out and take it to the parts store just to be sure.
