Acura Vigor A/C Problem

Q. Hi, I have a question for you. I have a 1993 Acura Vigor, with about 65,000 miles and am having problems with my air conditioning/climate control system. Sometimes when I press the control button on the panel the A/C light does not go on and the A/C, as well as the blower fan, does not work. Other times it works fine (and the light comes on), and the air is very cold.

I took it to my local guy, who sent me to an electrical guy, who told me he thought I needed to replace the blower motor, big job, about $800.00 dollars, but since it worked when he had the car he indicated I should wait, as this item rarely failed on these cars, and if it continued to bring it back. Could I just have a short? If the blower motor was shot, would it work sometimes? I am concerned because as the weather changes I will only be able to use the heater/defrosters sometimes. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Nick

A. Somehow I don't think it's the blower motor. If it were, then the A/C and A/C light will still go on. So I think it's something that would effect the whole system.

I think the most likely cause of the problem is the Heater Control Unit itself or the connector in back of it. The Heater Control Unit not hard to remove so checking the connector is easy enough. There is a small cover on the panel near the center of the Heater Control Unit. Pop the cover off and you will see a screw under it. Remove the screw and slide the Heater Control Unit straight out.

Now you can check the connector to make sure it is clean and tight. If it is, then I think you'll need a new Heater Control Unit.
