Toyota Camry DTC P0401

Q. Vince, I have 1996 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder EFI. I filled $10.00 worth of gas about two days ago. I came home and park the car and next morning, when I started the car Check Engine light came on. I took it the dealer, who said the code was PO401 (EGR switch). Is it easy to installed? And how?

Also rear and driver side power window on this car does not function properly. How can I fix this?

Thanks,
Harish

A. DTC P0401 is "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected".

There could be a few reasons this code is set. The EGR valve could be stuck closed. The EGR valve vacuum line could be blocked or broken.

The Vacuum Switching Valve could be bad or have a problem in the electrical circuit. I would do a check of all the obvious things and if all looks well, have the EGR system scanned.

As for the windows, I believe there was a TSB issued for them. I would check with your local dealer.
