Chevrolet S-10 Blowing Warm Air

Q. Vince, I'm the owner of a 1995, Chevrolet S-10, Extended Cab pick-up. It has a four cylinder engine, automatic transmission and 106,000 miles. Recently, I've been having problems with the operation of the A/C and heater controls. When I turn the unit on and direct outside air through the dash vents all I get is very warm, hot, air.

I also, get the same results if I direct the air flow through the defrost vents. Upon turning the control knob to A/C mode the compressor no longer engages itself, and again all I get is warm air.

When the unit is turned off warm air flows through the bottom vents and all these problems exist even with the temperature control knob turned counter clockwise to cool mode. Whatever assistance you can provide in diagnosing my problem would be greatly appreciated. Have a nice day.

Stan

A. The air coming into the car can't be any cooler than the temperature that is outside unless you put on the A/C. Since it's not working you will need to have that looked at. Could be a low charge due to a leak in the system or a bad control head, compressor clutch, relay or pressure switch.

First thing to do is put a set of A/C gauges on it to see the state of charge.
