300-ZX No Start Wet

Q. Hi Vincent, My name is Derek and I own a 1986 Nissan 300-ZX turbo. It's an automatic with 88,000 miles on it. I've owned the car for three days. My question is that last night it rain, and my car would not start. All the lights worked fine, but for some reason my car would not start.

The starter wouldn't even click. So I don't know if I am looking at a starter problem or a fuse might have gotten wet. There is a broken plastic fuse cover on one of the fuses and it makes a slight clicking noise when I try to start it. I'm thinking that is the problem, but I'm not sure. Any info would be very helpful.

Thank you for your time,
Derek

A. The first thing to do the next time this happens is to see if you have power to the starter. There should be battery voltage at the small yellow wire on the starter solenoid. If there is, then the starter is bad. If not check for power at the yellow wire at the ignition switch. If you have power there, then there is an open circuit between the switch and the starter. If not, check for power at the white/blue wire. If you do, then the ignition switch is bad. If not, the brown fuseable link in the link box is burnt out.

However, I think the most likely cause is the starter.
