Civic Ignition System
Q. Read your article re: Honda Main Relays which includes some information on the igniter (1991 1.6 liter Honda Civic), which is what I want to troubleshoot. Can you more clearly identify the terminals you discuss?
Is the igniter terminal the wire from the PGM (white)? Is the igniter signal the wht/blu wire? I am assuming the black/yellow wire is the battery supply voltage and there won't be much variation here. What value should I expect from the"permanent magnet sensor" I assume this is the "cylinder sensor" (I don't want to blow up my scope)? How can I identify the negative terminal of the coil?
Thanks,
TedA. Okay, the white wire comes in from the PGM to the igniter. The white/blue wire goes from the igniter to the B (-) terminal of the coil. The black/yellow wire (+) gets power from the ignition switch. The blue wire goes from the igniter to the tach.
The white and orange wires go from the Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) to the PGM and the white/blue and orange/blue go from the TDC sensor to the PGM.
It get's a little tricky after this depending on the model. Click on the link below for the ignition system wiring diagram and you can use it track down your particular model.
