Knocking Pontiac Grand Am

Nothing works on this car anymore. That's not what I'm concerned about though. My question is this: Ever since I've obtained this car, (around 100,000 Miles) the engine had a slight bearing knock. Upon doing some research, it is my understanding that the 3.3 Liter engine came with an oversize #1 Main. Is this true? For some reason, the front seal is intact.

It is quite loud now, (much louder than it used to be) and I was just wondering about a time frame before something happens. When the car first starts, it obtains 60-64 psi of oil. After it warms up a little, the oil pressure drops to 27-30 psi. The pounding commences. The engine is still very smooth, and hasn't been touched internally or externally. There is a slight oil leak at the pan, but I lose about 1/8 quart of oil every 3500 miles.

Would replacing the main bearing itself solve anything, or would the crank be too far out of round? How much time is left on this old car? (estimates?) The next thing (and last... sorry about that) I am concerned about is: A cold start and the engine runs great. A warm start and the engine runs like garbage. After running for awhile, shutting off the engine, and restarting, the engine shakes and vibrates. It seems as though it is not firing on all cylinders. The exhaust stinks of fuel and puffs unevenly.

Magically after idling for about 2 minutes, there is a point at which the engine suddenly repairs itself and smooths out. Every sensor has tested good (TPS, MAF, Oxygen, Even coolant).I have noticed a bit of coolant around the intake gasket area. Also, the idle air control motor has been mentioned. Under throttle, (when it's running rough) the engine is also smoothed out. It seems to just be an idle problem on warm starts.

Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Travis

A. I am in the same boat as you are. You can't really complain about this with the amount of miles on it. If it is indeed knocking, I would not spend another dime on it. My car has 150,000 and it's starting to nickel and dime me to death and I'm looking for a replacement car as we speak. Any money spent here sounds like a waste to me. Sorry.
