Dodge Caravan Sticking Shifts

Q. This is for a:

  • 1996 Dodge Caravan
  • 3.0 liter V-6
  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles
  • ABS brakes
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control
Dodge Caravan Sticking Shifts

It often sticks in second gear meaning when coming to a full stop, it tries to take off in second. I can manually downshift into first and it will work. Occasionally it will not want to shift up from second either.

I have it scheduled for a fluid change but want to know if there is anything that could be causing the problem besides dirty fluid and filter. It has been doing this about a two months and the mechanic I usually use still doesn't have time to look at it so I have to take it to someone I don't know and want some idea of the possible problem.

Deborah

A. Hopefully the transmission filter and fluid change will help. Otherwise you have an internal transmission problem.

You might want to have a Chrysler Dealer look at it to see if there are any codes stored in the PCM or TCM. It could also be a sticking shift valve in the valve body.
