LSS Missing
Q. Hello, I recently purchased a 1997 Olds LSS with the 3800 series II (non-supercharged) engine. Mileage is 43,750, auto transmission with overdrive, fuel injection, A/C, loaded. Spark plugs, spark plug wires, transmission fluid (drop pan) and oil have all been changed within the past month.
I am experiencing a lurching or "miss" on slight grades at steady speeds of 35-45 mph. I tried shifting to 3rd gear the last time it occurred, but that did not help. The frustrating thing is that it doesn't occur on a regular basis.
I also own a 1996 Chevy Lumina (3100 engine) that had the same problem but replacing the plug wires seemed to clear it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JohnA. A TSB was just issued by GM this week about this condition on . I quote from the bulletin:
Condition: Some owners may comment on driveability symptoms of long or hard starts, chuggle, rough idle and light or intermittent misfire. The Malfunction (MIL) mal also illuminate.
Cause: Due to various factors, the fuel injectors may become restricted. At this point, no specific fuel, fuel constituent or engine condition has been identified as causing the restriction. The restriction causes the engine to operate at a lean air fuel ratio. This may either trigger the MIL light to illuminate or the engine to develop various driveability symptoms.
It goes on the describe the cleaning procedure using the GM injector cleaning tool and the use of a new Top-Engine Cleaner.
At this point I would recommend taking it to the GM dealer and they will be able to confirm this and perform the cleaning procedure.
