Jeep Grand Cherokee Difficult Starting

Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.0 litre inline six engine with 20,000 miles on it. I have a weird problem. My jeep won't start on the first try. It will always start on the second try, every time. I checked the air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. Everything seems okay. It runs great, just won't start on the first time. Any suggestions?

Jeep Grand Cherokee Difficult Starting

A. It's possible you have a bad fuel pump check valve or fuel pressure regulator.. This valve is supposed to hold fuel pressure in the fuel system to make starting easier. To test this, before you start it, cycle the key ON - OFF - ON three or four times, then start it. If it starts right up, the fuel pump check valve is bad.

Other than that, you will need to put a fuel pressure gauge on it to see what the fuel pressure is.
