Chrysler Town & Country Stalls
Q. Vincent, I would like to ask you a question concerning a stalling problem I have been experiencing on my 1994 Chrysler Town & Country. The vehicle will stall intermittently when slowing down to turn a corner or to stop. I was getting a check engine light intermittently when driving for long periods on the highway and changing the O2 sensor fixed that.
But the stalling has continued. When the car stalls it often exhibits a rough idle or will tend to surge once and a while at highway speeds. I have cleaned the throttle body and throttle plate, the IAC and replaced all spark plugs and air filter. The ignition wires are about a year old.
When the car stalls there are no "trouble codes" available to indicate the nature of the problem. I have read that it could be multiple things, (fuel pump, cam sensor, IAC, throttle position sensor, MAP, but I am not sure which would be the first to check. Apparently it is something that is borderline faulty because the car will start right back up and run fine for a while.
My current gas mileage is about what it has always been (16-18 city, 20-22 highway). Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Also, where is the cam sensor in the first place?

Thanks...
A. This will be a tough one to diagnose since it happens only intermittently. It could be a Electronically Modulated Converter Clutch (EMCC) solenoid sticking or going bad. Let's try a transmission fluid and filter change and see what happens. If it is a sticking EMCC solenoid, that might clean it up and getting working right again. Be sure to use the Chrysler ATF from the dealer. It can make a big difference.
Other than that, we may have to wait for the problem to become more consistent in order to do an accurate diagnostic.
The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is located on the timing gear cover.
