Toyota Corolla SR5 Got High

Q. Hi, I own a 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5. I recently drove it out to my new home in Colorado, from California. Ever since, I experience a lack of power in first, second and sometimes third gears. I can have the gas all the way in and I'm not going any faster, and then all of a sudden it will kick in.

It is very frustrating and somewhat dangerous. I can't seem to accelerate when I need to. I have tried pumping the gas pedal and down shifting into a lower gear and it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Could it be the altitude? And if it is, do I have to have someone adjust them or can I do it myself? Please help.

A. Yes, it could be the altitude. What you describe could also be the symptoms of a clutch that's beginning to slip. The best advice I can give would be to go to your local dealer in Colorado and explain the situation and let them diagnose it for you.
