Honda Accord Steering Wheel Vibration

Q. Hi, I have a 2003 Honda Accord LX. My problem is that when I am in DRIVE and stopped at a light with my radio and heater on my steering starts to vibrate. It is not going up and down really fast but enough to feel it. I only have 15,000 miles on the car. Also sometimes this happens and sometimes it does not. But it does occur about 85% of the time.

Honda Accord Steering Wheel Vibration

Is this normal and just deal with it, or do I need to take it to my local honda dealer? Is this caused by having a 4 cylinder engine. I am thinking Honda, who has a good reputation, should have cured this problem by now?

A. I would nor consider it normal. Your vehicle has electronically controlled engine mounts. I talked about them in my article Replacing Engine Mounts. There is a control solenoid that cycles on and off to counteract engine vibration. This solenoid is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Since this is under warranty I would suggest taking it to the dealer and say "Fix it and call me when it's ready." You can also call Honda Customer Service, the number is in your owners manual, file a complaint and request a meeting with the Factory Representative. He will be able to resolve the problem.
