GMC Jimmy SLS Engine Swap
Q. My son has a GMC Jimmy SLS 4x4. It needs a new engine. We are in the process of searching for a low mileage engine. The problem is, it has the side mount plug wires on the distributor. We are told that it is a rare item, only manufactured for three months or something like that. My question is: since we are replacing the motor, why do we need to replace it with the same motor?
Couldn't we just as well use a motor with the TOP mount plug wires in the distributor? Will the transmission and everything still bolt up to the motor? Or is there some reason why we would have to replace the motor with the same side mount distributor wires?
- 1995 GMC Jimmy SLS 4x4
- 4.3 liter
- Automatic transmission
- 110,000 miles
Thanks,
JohnA. You could swap the distributor from the old engine to the junk yard one. Not sure what other little nightmares will pop up with this though. The transmission is same, mounts should be same also. Just not sure what other things will be different along with the distributor.
