Jeep Grand Cherokee Oops
Q. I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 liter V-8. I just got it with 27,000 miles and have a warranty till 80,000 miles. I was in very heavy snow over the weekend and tried to put it in 4 low. This Jeep has QuadraTrack options of either All Wheel Drive and 4 Low. The directions were very confusing and I ended up gear crunching/clashing a couple times trying to get it into 4 Low.
I realize now that I was supposed to put the transmission in neutral, roll the car 2-3 MPH and then change from All Wheel Drive to 4 Low. I crunched/clashed the gears 3-4 times because I did not realize the transmission needed to be in neutral.
My question is, did I do any damage to my gears, transmission, etc. that will haunt me down the road? I have a warranty to get anything fixed so I want to know if you think I cooked anything and how to pursue getting it covered under the warranty.
Thanks in advance...
A. I serious doubt you did any damage to the transfer case. They are pretty robust and can generally take some abuse. I don't think you have any thing to worry about down the road either.
