Delta 88 Stalling
Q. Mr. Ciulla: The problem with my 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that has recently occured is as follows: When I stop at a light or sometimes when at low speeds it stalls, this is when vehicle is in the drive position. If I feed it gas or put it in park immediately after I come to a stop it doesn't stall. However while the vehicle is in the park position the engine appears to be racing or running fast.
On the highway or at a speed of 20 MPH and over there is no problem, except for the vehicle racing that can be noticable more at the park position. Also noticed that if the car is speeded up before coming to a stop sign , stalling can be avoided if pressure on the gas peddle is applied very lightly and increased gently , most of the time the stalling can be avoided, so it appears that as long as there is constant feeding of gas or at driving at speeds higher than 20 MPH.
The spark plugs and wires have been changed, a new oxygen sensor installed, EGR valves cleaned and replaced with new gaskets, a used MAF sensor and idle control valves (IAC) has also been installed. Also the throttle body has been cleaned. Vehicle has over 125,000 miles.
Can you please advise me of any suggestions that could solve the stalling problem. Thank you in advance for your valued assistance.
Best regards,
StevenA. The Mass Air Flow (MAF) and Idle Air Control (IAC) could do this. Also a vaccum leak could do this. A scanner hooked up should help in diagnosing this problem.
