Chevrolet Corvette Code 44
Q. Hello, We have a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette, 350 fuel injected engine, automatic transmission and 77,000 miles. I am getting a code 44. It seems like I get this code ONLY when it is REALLY HOT outside. I have replaced the O2 sensor. We recently went to Kansas City, about a 230 mile drive from me interstate. It ran great.
We check into the hotel then went to go downtown. We were at a stop light and the car started acting like it was flooding out, then the check engine light came on and the engine died. Now I shut the ignition off then turned it back on started right up and run great until we got to the next stop light and it did it again.
This happened four times. And also at this time it was REALLY HOT outside. We parked the car for a day, didn't drive it at all. Then headed home the next day and it ran great home and even when we stopped at lights at home. But it wasn't as HOT outside as it was on the couple of days before.
I even thought it was a vapor lock but I opened the cap and didn't get any pressure.
Any suggestions or help? Thanks in advance! Because right now I am ready to sell it and get rid of the headache and my wife thinks other!!!!
Thanks again!
Jeff and BarbA. Code 44 means a lean condition. Could be it ran out of fuel temporarily. Fuel pressuretoo low? Clogged fuel filter? It could also be an exhaust leak near the O2 sensor. There are lots of possibilities!
