Chevy Cavalier Blower Motor Resistor

Q. My daughter's 1999 Chevy Cavalier's fan only works in high speed. I told her that I thought it was the blower resistor. Can you tell me where this is located so that we can change it?

Chevy Cavalier Blower Motor Resistor

A. The blower motor resistor is located in the lower right corner of the HVAC module. The resistor is located between the blower motor and the front of the dash.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the right sound insulator.
  3. Remove the blower motor.
  4. Cut a portion of the dash mat in order to gain access to the rear resistor screw.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connection at the blower resistor.
  6. Remove the blower resistor screws.
  7. Remove the blower motor resistor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

  1. Install the blower resistor.
  2. Install the blower resistor screws. Tighten the screws.
  3. Replace the portion of the dash mat that you cut during the removal procedure.
  4. Connect the electrical connections at the blower resistor.
  5. Install the blower motor. Tighten the screws.
  6. Install the right sound insulator.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
