Q.
Hi, I have a question about a sound my car is making. Its a 1992 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 liter fuel-injected engine with an automatic transmission, 119,000 miles and ABS brakes. There is a noise coming somewhere from the left front wheel, sort of like a cross between a squeaking and a brushing sound, if you can imagine what that sounds like.
I can hear it when I'm driving, listening with the windows down, and it makes the sound on every tire rotation, so it pulses at a rate proportional to how fast I'm going. It is constant, speed or turning makes no difference. It sounds like the noise is off the ground, no road noise, and I checked the tire and it seems to be okay, so I guess the tire can be ruled out. No blockage in or anything caught in the wheel well either. What does this sound like to you?
Thanks,
John
A. The front brake pads can have a little "squealer" built on to them that lets you know it's time to change them when they get too low. The noise will usually go away when you step on the brake pedal.
