GMC Sonoma Hard Cold Starts

Q. Yes, I have a 1997 GMC Sonoma pickup, 4.3 liter V-6, automatic transmission, loaded, with center point fuel injection. I am presently having problems with cold starts. It acts as if it is out of fuel, no other problems after it starts. Don't think it's ignition part problem, although I have replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, and air filter.

Fuel filter has not been replaced for about 40,000 miles. Run fuel injector cleaner in system regularly. Could filter be problem or do you think fuel pump might be getting weak and not building up enough start up pressure? Like I said no problems when it is running just cold starts.

Truck has 205,000 highway miles. Problem has been going on since cold weather change about six weeks or so, would fuel pump last that long if going bad? Pump in tank?

A. You need to put a pressure gauge on it and see what pressure is and make sure that it holds pressure when the key is off. If it's bleeding down you have a leak somewhere and I'll bet it's the pressure regulator which is under the plenum along with the injectors.
