DTC P1870

Q. Hello, I have a 1997 GMC 1500 Savana van with a 350 engine. It has the OBD II system and I have a scanner. The Service Engine Soon (SES) light came on. When I scaned the code I get a code P1870. No other codes. I can't find this code anywhere to tell me what it means.

The codes I found are lower or high then this number. I have erased the code, but it just keeps coming back. All fluid levels are correct in my van, I change the oil every 3,000 miles and I have changed the transmission fluid and filter, in hopes that this would correct the problem. HELP!!! What does this code P1870 mean.

Thanks,
Dan

A. This code is for a transmission slip condition. BIG problem on the 4L60E transmission. Could be something related to the torque convertor clutch circuit. Also have seen many fixed with a new valve body, so much so that GM now sells remanufactured valve bodies for these.
