Chevy ½-Ton EGR System Problems

Q. I Have a 1992 Chevy ½-ton. The EGR valve goes off and on at idle causing the engine to run rough when you come to a stop light. Going down the road the engine runs fine. I have changed all the sensors and changed the computer. The only way I have been able too stop this was to unplug the vacuum switch to the EGR valve.

This in turn causes the Check Engine Light to come on. It resets itself when you turn the key off but will come back on after run engine for a while. Any help would be appreciated.

A. Most problems in the EGR system are caused by a bad EGR valve or a bad EGR solenoid.
