Questions and Answers
Should I??
Q. Mr. Ciulla, I very much enjoy maintaining and working on my car, specifically the electrical system, I routinely check my fuses, battery terminals (for corrosion), wiring, and I get a lot of satisfaction from simple things such as cleaning my battery terminals and getting a health reading form my battery gauge.
I have extensive computer programming experience, including coding assembler language for fighter plane micro-controller boards. I love cars, and was wondering if you can give me a reality check: is it worth my time to go to a occupational center and study auto-tune up skills with the objective of getting a job in that profession?
Thanks for your time,
JayA. I'm going to wax philosophical here Jay. There is a line from Shakespeare that says "To Thine Own Self Be True." If this is something you truly want to do and would be happy doing, go for it. There are plenty of openings for automotive electricians out there and good ones make good money.
You have a distinct advantage, if it should not work out for you or you find it is not something you want to do, you have another profession to fall back on. So give it a shot, life is too short not to try.
