Jet Boat Dies After 15 Minutes Running

Q. Hi Vincent, here's the stats:

  • 200 Cubic Inch, 3.28 litre
  • 1969 OHV in line 6 cylinder

Difference is, it's in a Jet Boat I've brought and powers a "Hamilton stage one jet".

Jet Boat Dies After 15 Minutes Running

But motors being motors here's the issue; starts and runs well, sounds healthy! Temperature and oil pressure is great, until it's been running @ 3,300 rpms for about 15 minutes then;

  1. Losses oil pressure.
  2. Temperature steadily rises.
  3. Starts smoking from oil cap-light vapor not excessive.
  4. Loses power like its missing but no noise (like missing).
  5. Once turned off won't start again. Will do so easy after 30 minutes.
  6. Just removed plugs, very dirty, looks like crusty (solid) oil baked on.

I know there's a million and one questions you'll have, but where can you suggest I start? And will a re-build see it right? Is it just tired and worn?

Regards for your awesome help,
Paul

A. Stick a fork in the engine Paul, it's done. It's going to need a good rebuild to get it back to proper health.
