Volvo 740 Turbo Losses Power Q. Just bought a used 1988 Volvo 740 2.3 liter SOHC turbo. Problem is car runs good at low rpms or no load, but as soon as I step on the pedal a little bit the cars surges and blow black smoke out the tail pipe. The car sat for about four to five months and was not driven any. I’m going to change fuel filter, but I was wondering if I should look elsewhere. On the dash the gauge for the turbo works and when the needle gets to about 11 o’clock that’s when the cars starts to run badly.

A. The fuel filter is probably going to solve the problem. Let me know if it doesn't.
