Two Questions On A BMW 735i
Q. 1988 BMW 735i. Two questions:
1. Dual air conditioner will blow cold on startup in the morning, usually by the afternoon it blows warmer and warmer. Compressor and clutch working.
2. Driver side mirror not working however passenger side is. You can hear "gears" moving in the mirror but it does not adjust mirror. I open the mirror and cleaned everything but continues to not work. It seems like I need to replace the inner parts of the mirror.Michael
Tampa, FLA. 1. The first thing I would suggest is having the refrigerant checked to be sure the proper amount is in the system. Usually when the A/C outlet temperature drops gradually as you describe, is because the evaporator is icing up. When the evaporator core ices up, air flow through the evaporator core is cut off resulting in less cooling.
Moving the air select lever to the FRESH position will allow incoming warm air to melt the ice and restore proper cooling.
Another possibility is a bad outside temperature sensor. BMW had a problem with them shorting out in the E31, E32 and E34 models shorting out.
2. If you hear the motor running but the mirror does not adjust, you will need to replace the mirror. The internal mechanism is not replaceable.
The Automatic Climate Control will store a DTC. A BMW dealer will need to access the code, no provision was made by BMW to access them with out the BMW Service Tester.
