D-100 Fuel Milage
Q. I have a 1989 Dodge Pickup, D-100, automatic transmission, TBI. A/C, cruse control with 207,000 miles. it did get 22 mpg on road 16 city. It dropped to 13 mpg on road or city no matter how fast or slow you drive. It runs good and uses a quart of oil between changes.
I keep it tuned up and oil changes regularly. I don't remember just what kind of plugs came in it new, but my mechanic uses Autolite. What can we do to get a little better fuel mileage?
Thanks for any information.
FarmerA. An engine is like a person, when thy are young they perform better. As they get older the things they used to do all night takes all night to do. The same with an engine. As they get older, performance decreases and as a consequence, so does fuel milage.
I don't think this so much a problem as a sign of old age. All you can do is keep going as you are, regular tune-ups and oil changes and that will maximize what ever the engine has left in it.
From the factory it had Champion RN12YC spark plugs gapped at 0.035" installed.
