Cavalier Doesn't Take Gas

Q. 1998 Chevy Cavalier Wagon, 2.0 liter Overhead Valve, automatic transmission, 65,000 miles. Throttle Body Injection, no ABS, P/S, A/C, Cruise Rack & Pinion Steering. Car hesitates/Stalls when hitting the gas.

Thought the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor was bad (when the MAP sensor is unplugged, car runs better). Replaced MAP sensor, still same symptoms. When I bring the car up to speed slowly, there is no problem wide open, no problem, hit the gas hard, cough cough choke stall, hard to start.

A. I would have to guess the problem is with the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Mid-range is where they often go bad and that seems to be were the symptoms are manifesting themselves. A bad TPS will throw and store a DTC so pulling the codes from the computer would tend to confirm this as a cause of the problem.

(I'm assuming the car is a 1988 and not a 1998, since a 1998 doesn't have TBI and there was no 2.0 liter engine in 1998.)
