Volkswagen Golf Slow Shifting Q. Hello, I just bought a 1999 Volkswagen Golf with an automatic transmission from a dealer. I noticed lately, last 2 weeks, that it takes a long time before the transmission shifts into the next gear. Especially going from FIRST to SECOND gear, I really have to push the gas pedal down until it roars, before it shifts. Is that something to worry about, or is it normal?

Can I go back to the dealer, I bought the car three months ago, and have him explain or check it?

A. Before I go and spend any money on it I would go back to the dealer and see what they will do for you. It could be something as simple as a transmission service.
