Acura Alternator

Q. Vince, I had a new problem with my 1988 Acura Legend. My alternator went out, so I had it rebuilt, since its way more expensive for a new one. When I accelerate hard, and the RPM's go past about 5, my battery light comes on, until I let off the gas? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brent

A. It sounds like there's a problem with the diode pack in the alternator. Since you just had it rebuilt, and I'm assuming you got some kind of warranty, I would take it back to the shop that rebuilt it. If it wasn't done at a rebuilding shop, the rebuild probably consisted of a new set of brushes and that's it. That would not fix a problem with the diodes. If it was done at an electrical shop, then they will replace the diode pack and if the one they put in is defective, they will replace it.
