Whining Chevy Monte Carlo

Q. Hi there, I have a question about my transmission. First off I have a 2001 Whining Chevy Monte Carlo SS, though fairly new, it has 45,000 miles on it and for a while now the transmission has been acting up. When I first start it up, before I even move it or put it in gear, it makes a winding noise, but it slowly dissipates after it warms up.

It also shifts hard and too quickly sometimes when it is cold. My husband is a mechanic, but unfortunately doesn't know much about transmissions. We had it to the dealer before the warranty was up, but they of course never found anything. Now that the warranty is over, it is doing it more often then none.

He changed the transmission fluid in it and there was no sign of metal or anything in the fluid, in fact it was so clean he didn't even change the filter. That helped for a week or two, but now it is back to doing the same thing again. Do you have any suggestions or ideas as to what it may be?

Thanks,
Patti

A. Sounds like the pump is crying for fluid. I would call Chevy and tell them of your problem and that the dealer did not fix it when it was under warranty. You never know and it wouldn't hurt to try. This could be a electrical problem or a basic hydraulic problem.
