VW Jetta Radio Anti-Theft Mode

Q. Hi: My daughter has a 1996 VW Jetta. It is a 4 door, A/C, P/S, cruise control. The engine is a V-6 and the transmission is a 5-speed manual. The problem that she keeps having is with the radio. It is the factory original AM/FM with tape player.

It also has the necessary equipment that would allow a CD player to be hooked up to it but does not have this feature on this car. This radio sounds great when it works. The problem is that it keeps going into safety mode and won't work most of the time. My daughter takes out the fuse and resets the safety code and can use the radio for a while until the next incident. I have not been able to figure out what is wrong. Can you help????

A. I assume you mean to say the anti-theft mode kicks in and she has to re-enter her security code.

The only thing that would cause the radio to go into anti-theft mode is a loss of power to the radio. About all you can do is make sure the fuse is good and all the radio connections are clean and tight. If they are the problem is inside the radio itself.
