Ford Mustang Poor Fuel Economy
Q. I have a 1989 Ford Mustang that uses an unusually large amount of fuel. I hear my fuel pump running constantly, even at idle. I have replaced every sensor in the system including a new computer. The injectors have all been rebuilt and calibrated. It is a 2.3 litre four cylinder engine that I'm guessing is getting approximately eight miles to the gallon.
The fumes are shortening my life span by at least ten years. PLEASE HELP!
Thank you in advance,
Bob
Tacoma, WAA. First off, the fuel pump is supposed to run the whole time the engine is running. In fact if it stopped, so would the engine.
There are a hundred reasons for poor fuel economy. Here is a list of things to check out. And if the gas fumes are so strong they are making you sick, I would be going over every inch of that fuel system because you got to have a leak somewhere.
