Caravan Timing Chain
Q. 1992 Dodge Caravan 3.3 engine with 104,000 miles. Why does one hear that your are lucky to get 65,000 to 75,000 miles and then suffer a "timing chain repair." My van is in the change out hospital today for same. Is this the only important event to happen? Thank you for any reply. In the past, my requests to you and answers received were really appreciated.
Best regards,
BobA. Well, to be blunt about it, the engine is not one of Chryslers best. It has had problems not only with the timing chains, but with pistons, knocks and leaks. The one thing you can rely on with this engine is the timing chain will go bad at about 70,000 miles and need to be replaced. That's just the nature of the beast.
