Saturn SL2 Dragging Like Noises
Q. Hi Vince, 1996 Saturn SL2, 4 cylinder. The past month there has been a noise under the car, sounding like from the right side of the car, possibly the back right side. The back brake was squeaking so I did have my brakes replaced and afterwards there was a really big noise on the right side then the car's back wheels didn't move after a few days so back to that shop I went for an adjustment.
The only thing now is that it feels like the car is "congested" when I accelerate. I have added that carburetor cleaner two times on two tanks of gas. I have replaced the spark plugs recently, kept up with oil changes and I did have to put in transmission fluid two weeks ago, not had checked that in a while and was low, but both fluids seems to be fine.
The noise seems to come from underneath the car like I'm dragging something, it's not very loud or really a definite grind, but it seems like something is "stuck" in the engine and I feel a vibration under the accelerator.
Also, even though I've had both brakes done there is a creak noise when I do brake, when the pedal stops, not as I'm pressing it. I did ask the shop about this and they said "what noise" so ????
I just don't want to be stuck on the road somewhere nor right now I really don't want to take it to Saturn because it's always the magic price of $200.00 and up no matter what I get done to it, and since I can't really describe to them what is going on I want to make sure that I'm not going to be paying for stuff I really don't need. And I definitely can't get a new car right now.
Thank you,
DebA. If I were you, this is what I'd do. Go to your Saturn dealer! If you checked their labor rate against the shop who did your brakes, I'll bet it's very close. Ask for the service manager and see if he will road test your car with you so he can determine the root cause of the noise and then he will advise you what needs to be done.
