Subaru Electrical Problems

Q. Hi Vince, I am having a problem with my 1995 Subaru Legacy L Sedan. Here are the statistics:

1995 Subaru Legacy
V-6 engine (I think)
Automatic
93,000 miles
Fuel Injection
ABS brakes
A/C, Cruise
Power Steering.

Here is the problem: The back lights do not work, along with the dash lights (all interior lights). The ABS and now the Air Bag lights come on when I start the car. The interior lights come on for a few seconds when the car starts, however they stop working when the car starts (the beeping noise goes off). I have brought the car to various mechanics, none of which can fix the problem. They have replaced fuses, lights, checked wires, steering consoles and trunk lights.

The car works for about a month and then the lights stop working again. This problem is getting expensive and is very frustrating! Have you ever heard of this happening in this make and model? I appreciate your response.

Thank you!

A. I spent the last hour studying the wiring diagrams for your car and every time I thought I found a common point in the affected systems, one was not involved. It is possible that it is more than one problem, but somehow I feel it is in the wiring. There is a harness somewhere that has worn through or has been pinched that is causing all these problems.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but this sounds like it is going to take a bit of work to resolve.
