Volkswagen Beetle Left To Right Drive
Q. Hi, I have just bought a second hand left hand drive Volkswagen Beetle that has been rebuilt. I have a problem with setting the wheel alignment. Now I am of the opinion that the person who has rebuilt the front end has just used a right hand front end and tried to adapt it. My question is: can you use a right hand drive steering box, pitman arm and tie rods from a left hand drive beetle on a left hand drive beetle?
If not what is needed to convert a right hand steering to a left hand one?
Thanking you in advance for your help.

I'm not sure. I don't have any reference materials to check parts and part numbers so I can't say, definitively, if they are the same. But in the book "How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" there is a picture showing the steering components. It looks to me like you could mount the steering box on either side and just flip the steering linkage over.
Whether this will actually work or not, I can't say for sure. I never tried to do such a conversion so i really don't know what is required.
