Nissan Maxima Cruise Control Module

Q. Dear Vince, I have a 1987 Nissan Maxima GLS with 3.0 liter V-6, automatic transmission and 194,000 miles. It runs like a top. But my cruise control quit working. I get the master cruise light on the dash but it does not engage. I have checked all the hoses and the vacuum control and don't see any problems. My Chilton's manual doesn't show the location of the cruise control unit or any fuses. Does it have one or is it part of the ECU?

A. The Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) or cruise control module is located under the drivers seat.

Before replacing it, I would check the PCM for codes and a possible Vehicle Speed Sensor problem. Then check the ASCD actuator and make sure the vacuum lines to it are connected and in good condition.
