Chevy Cavalier Stalls And Dies In Gear
Q. Hello, I was hoping you could help me. I just test drove a car I'm thinking about buying from a friend and everything was great until we exited off the highway and atop the exit ramp, the car shut off. I put it in PARK, restarted it but every time I put it in gear, it went off again. any idea what this might be?? Here is some general info about the car:
- 1992 Chevy Cavalier RS wagon
- V-6 engine
- auto transmission
- 127,000 miles
- ABS system
- Power steering
I thought you might have an idea as to what this might be. if its something simple, I might still buy it from her. please don't tell me it needs a new transmission! well, if that's what it needs, tell me, but I'm hoping that's not the problem.
Thanks a lot!
A. It needs a torque convertor clutch solenoid. Very common on this transmission. The side cover needs to be removed to get to it. It would cost around $200.00 to have it done.
