Chevrolet Z71 SES Light On
Q. 1997 Chevrolet Z71, 4WD, 350 Vortec, automatic transmission and 114,000 miles. The Service Engine Soon (SES) light came on. I noticed a milky residue on the oil filler cap and the engine almost cuts off when I give it gas quickly. Also, there is a clicking under the dash and the interior lights flashing off and on when the passenger side door is opened.
And the intermittent wiper only works at two speeds now, no more than 5 seconds. All this happened at the same time. Any ideas?
A. Coolant in the crankcase?? Most probably a bad intake gasket. As for the electrical gremlins, check all the battery terminals. If the battery is original, Delco batteries have been known to leak out the positive terminals. This corrodes the cable and makes for a lot of electrical troubles.
