Chevy S-10 Blazer P/S Pump
Q. Hi Vince, I am a DIY who needs some guidance in replacing the power steering pump on my 1992 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4.3 liter V-6 VIN code "Z". The power steering pump's output shaft seal started leaking badly after removing the serpentine belt to change the water pump! Strange but true. It appears to be mounted between the engine block and a large aluminum frame casting which is also used to mount the alternator.
Can I extract the pump without removing the entire frame? Do I require a special GM pulley removal tool or will a generic brand name do? Any help you can provide will be appreciated.
Warren
A. You will need a puller and installer for the pulley. Might be able to rent one from the local rental center. There are three or four bolts behind the pulley that hold the pump to the bracket. You should be able to get the pump off with the pulley off.
