Toyota Corolla Trans. Swap Q. Hi Vincent, my question is: can I put a 1983 Toyota Corolla 5-speed transmission in a 1979 Toyota Corolla with an automatic transmission? Thank you for your help, Carlos

A. Well, the engines are different but according to the information I have at hand, the transmission bolt patterns are the same. So the swap should work. I would put both transmissions side by side and measure the bolt holes, just to be sure.

You'll also need the clutch pedal, linkages and change the flywheel.
