Nissan SE Truck Dies When In Gear
Q. I have a 1995 Nissan SE 4x4 3.0 liter V-6 and I am having a little trouble with the transmission. The trouble I'm having is that after the truck sits for several hours then when I get in and start it and put in gear it wants to die. What it feels like to me is that it goes into full gear and kills the motor.
When I finally take off it feels as though it is in drive completely instead of upshifting. After I drive it for a few minutes it starts operating perfect. Could this be some kind of solenoid? No other problems with transmission other than that.I would appreciate any information you can give me.
Thank you,
AlbertA. It is most likely a stuck Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid. Not uncommon for a Nissan. You can test it easily enough by just unplugging it. Or you can check the resistance across the terminals. The specified resistance is 10 to 16 ohms.

To get to it you will need to drop the transmission pan and remove the transmission filter. Might as well replace the transmission filter while you're at it.
