Mercedes Benz 380SE Security System

Q. Hi, this is new to me. I have a 1984 Mercedes Benz 380SE, its a V-8, automatic transmission with 144,000 miles. I have a couple questions. First my security system does not work, I don't even know if I have one, but the manual says so. Second my clock doesn't work, but then it does, but then it doesn't, its on and off. If you could give me some pointers that would be great.

Also what's the little air intake thing above my interior front curtesy light. it has a little cover over it and sucks in air?

Thanks so much,
Nick

A. As of model year 1984, a factory-installed anti-theft alarm system is standard equipment on all 126 models.

This system incorporates switches as part of both the driver's and passenger's door handle assemblies. Arming or disarming of the system is accomplished via these switches. It should be noted, however, that only the master key will arm/disarm the system in the 126 models.

If you don't have a master key, go, with the vehicle, to a Mercedes Benz Dealer and they will order a new one for you using the VIN number. You need the vehicle, they will not give it to you otherwise.

The clock sounds like it's bad. They can't be repaired, only replaced.

That little air intake is the In-Car Temperature Sensor. This works with the Automatic Climate Control (ACC) to maintain the set passenger compartment temperature. The Aspirator fan is located in the cowl, under the hood.
