Chevy Lumina Sedan A/C Doesn't Work

Q. I have a 1998 Chevy Lumina Sedan with approximately mileage 150,000 miles. The air conditioner has not worked since I bought it used at a repo sale. The compressor does not even come on. I replaced the fuse. I had a mechanic check the compressor. He said that it is fine and is holding a charge. What is the next step?

Chevy Lumina Sedan A/C Doesn't Work

A. There needs to be at least 35 to 40 psi of pressure in the system to close the low side switch. You may have a bad pressure switch or control relay. You will need a schematic to diagnose this problem if the amount of charge is good enough to make A/C work.

It may even be a problem in the ECM since it controls the A/C relay. Sounds like you need to see a dealer if your mechanic can't figure it out.
