Oldsmobile Delta 88 OBD-II Connector

Q. I have a 1994 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal with the 3.8 liter V-6 engine. It has an OBD-II connector at the base of the steering column with contacts in pins 4, 5, 8, 9, 14 and 16. My OBD-II scanner, Actron CP9035, nor any other OBD-II scanner that I have tried will read the codes. Do you know of any adaptor or a way to rewire the connector that will allow me to scan codes?

Thank you for your time,
Joe

A. You will need a diagram for the ALDL connector and one from a newer OBD-II connector so you will know which wire goes where.

Or you can go to a GM Dealer and buy an adapter.

SCAN TOOL:
The underdash ALDL connector allows access to a variety of computer sensor circuit information, using several types of aftermarket scanners. Understanding the function of the scan tool can be useful in obtaining information that might otherwise prove time consuming or impossible to obtain using other test methods. Refer to manufacturers instructions for diagnostic test and code extraction. The information contained within this section is described for use of a TECH-1 scan tool.

NOTE: A special 12 to 16 pin harness adapter is necessary for some applications. This adapter is available for the TECH-1 as harness adapter part #3000053.

DATA DEFINITIONS:
The TECH-1 data definitions describe the tools display for the different selector positions, including what units of measurement are being displayed, and the range of possible values for each display. This information will assist in tracking down emission or driveability problems, since the displays can be viewed while the vehicle is being driven.

TYPICAL SCAN DATA VALUES:
This is a list of signals that can be monitored by a scan tool, describing units of measurement along with the specified normal operating range for each displayed value.
