Lincoln Town Car Consuming Oil
Q. I have a 1991 Lincoln Town Car. This car has a 4.6 liter with over 100,000 miles. My problem is oil consumption. The car uses one quart of oil about every 400 miles and has excessive oil smoke from the tail pipe. The car runs really well and never fouls the plugs. I guess my question is would my problem be in the valve seals, or could my problem be a intake gasket?
Is there any thing else besides rings (I have ruled this out due to compression and condition of the plugs) that this engine is known for using so much oil with this kind of mileage? Any assistance you can provide would be really helpful.
Respectfully,
RandyA. Okay Randy, there are only two ways oil gets inside a cylinder. Up through the rings or down past the valve seals.
If you have ruled out the rings, then it is the valve seals that are bad.
If you burn oil long enough, it will foul the plugs. And at a quart in 400 miles, that won't take long.
